 The Belated Birthday BBQ

Jeff's birthday was May 11th but on that day he was with Kendra as she gave birth to their third daughter, Lindsay.  Kendra's birthday was the 21st of May so we planned a party for Friday May 24th.  Katie was already at their home helping with the baby.  John drove up from St. George that morning.  Keith, Stacia and Emily drove up from Utah Valley.  The biggest surprise was a visit from Curt and Carmen Hostetler with their family.  Most of the pictures (all of the good ones) were taken by Stacia Klemas.

The "Birthday Boy" cooked the steaks and the chicken!



While the baked beans, corn-on-the cob, watermelon, potato bites and other foods were being prepared.



John made a large "Vegetable Tian"



While Elmo supervised the preparations



Everyone enjoyed the meal......

Then it was play-time



on the homemade swing set



or the kiddie slide



which was also a fun place to play "peek-a-boo!"



The back yard was also a fun place to play ball for Emily......

and Des (no mistaking that Hostetler profile!)

and for Becca to practice her skills as a running-back!



and Alayna demonstrated her speed and form!

 

Then it was time to find everyone and bring them back inside for dessert!

Cake was not a preferred dessert but that created a dilemma!  Do we have a traditional "birthday cake" or go with the desserts that Jeff & Kendra REALLY want?

 Compromise!!!!!!

and then on to the desserts that they wanted....like Cheese Cake....

make that TWO cheese cakes!



and brownies that were frosted by Alayna!

top it all off with some sorbet,,,,,,,,,



and you have some happy campers!!!



but alas, all good things must come to an end!



as Curt and Des head out to their car!

Mother's Day!!

On Mother's Day we took Alayna and Becca to church and then after lunch we went to visit their mommy in the hospital.  It was a special Mother's Day for our whole family, especially for Kendra who had just given birth the day before!

Alayna and Grandpa John made these treats for Kendra!

Alayna not only did the blue and multi-color sprinkles but she also dipped some of the strawberries!

Of course we had to supply flowers for our daughter on this special Mother's Day!

Next it was Jeff, Alayna and Becca's turn to wish her Happy Mother's Day!

Alayna loved the card with a dancing hula girl!

Alayna held Becca like this and now she's the "Big Sister" to two younger siblings!

Lindsay Jane Yoho

Our 4th Granddaughter (Kendra and Jeff's 3rd) was born around 11:45am on May 11th (her daddy's birthday)!  She weighed 7 lbs  8 oz and was 20" long.

We were watching Alayna and Becca and brought them to the hospital so their daddy could introduce them to their baby sister on Saturday (and so Nana and Grandpa could see her also).

The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Tour!

May 10th at Tuacahn Amphitheatre in Ivins, Utah

       With only familiar names Mike Love and Bruce Johnston appearing, I did not expect too much from the show, especially considering their ages.  I couldn't have been more wrong!!!!!!!  The show was equal to or surpassed the Beach Boys of the 1960's!!!  We saw Chicago and 3 Dog Night last year and the Beach Boys "sound" was there and at least 100% of what it was when I listened to them on the radio or my 8-track player.  Chicago and 3 Dog Night put on great shows but there was a noticeable loss of vocal quality.
 Some of the songs they performed were: "Do it Again", "Little Honda", "Catch a Wave", "Surfin Safari", "Surfer Girl", "When I Grow Up (To Be A Man)", "Little Deuce Coup", "409", "Shut Down", "I Get Around",  "Sail On, Sailor", "God Only Knows", "Sloop John B.", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "Good Vibrations", "California Girls", "Help Me Rhonda", "Rock and Roll Music", "Surfin USA", "Kokomo", "Barbara Ann" and "Fun, Fun, Fun"!!!

John & Katie a few minutes before the concert started.  Lots of gray hair and pot bellies!  Funny, I don't remember this many old people when I saw them 35 years ago!!  Surprisingly, there was a good number of 18 to 30 year olds here!

Tuacahn provided the cars in the background...they were not part of the Beach Boys props.

All of the performers were current or past members of the Beach Boys.  Unlike a lot of groups,  the Beach Boys are not a group of specific guys but a sound and a feeling that reminds us of our youth, the beach, surfing, girls, hot cars, school, etc.

Mike Love commented that the fog machine reminded him of being back in California!

Mike Love can still put on a great show at 71.  They played and sang for well over 2 hours!

Bruce Johnston was out of a lot of pictures because of his location on our far right.

Scott Totten is an incredible guitar player and directs the performances.

One of the biggest surprises was John Cowsill.  The Cowsills disbanded years ago but in addition to being  exceptional on percussion....HE CAN REALLY SING!!!!



After the Encore, which started with a pretty good new song of theirs...they rocked the place with the song written about a girl who worked at a Salt Lake City radio station.  She had gotten into trouble with her dad by telling him she was going to the library but really driving his T-Bird to the hamburger stand (true story)....can you guess the title?

Spring in Saint George!

My first plants of Spring are (top to bottom) Cyclamen, hyacinth (I started from bulbs), African Violets, Azaleas, Pothos.

Don't know the name of the shrub but it is verry pretty!
