Like Mother, Like Daughter

 

Zion National Park, Utah

We FINALLY visited Zion National Park yesterday.  It's truly magnificent.  I now have a lifelong senior pass to get into any U.S. national park for FREE!  So, we plan on returning here - for picnics, hiking, sightseeing, relaxing, whatever - with friends and family!  After all, it's only an hour's drive away from home!

 



The Virgin River runs through Zion Canyon, and was one of the major factors in the formation of this beautiful landscape.  One would never believe that this harmless little river has caused flooding in the canyon (taking out portions of the paved road ten or twenty feet above its channel), and all the way down to St. George.

Lookit how narrow the canyon becomes at "Temple of Sinawava."

John and Katie pose at the last stop of the tour shuttle, "Temple of Sinawava."  This point is where the canyon narrows dramatically, and hikers can stroll along the paved "riverside walk," and then continue on well-marked trails.  You're looking back DOWN the canyon in this photo.

We didn't get any pictures, but we saw at least two groups of climbers scaling such vertical walls.  Yes, they really do climb these cliffs!  We saw one cliff where the climber(s) had left their rope hanging half-way up the cliff. 

I hope they just FORGOT it.  There have been fatalities in this canyon.

No pics of it, but we found a REALLY good Mexican restaurant in Springdale, just outside the Park's entrance.

On September 28th, after giving the new family some private time, we drove up to see our newest granddaughter.

The next day we gave Kendra a chance to rest while we went shopping with Alayna.  Here she picked out hats for each of us to pose in!

Although we were only in Utah Valley for a day and a half, we still got a chance to join Keith, Stacia and Emily for a fun dinner at Texas Roadhouse.

Rebecca Lynn Yoho

Rebecca was born on September 26th at 11:39pm. Weighing in at 8 pounds 1 oz and 20" long, she had a beautiful head full of cocoa brown hair.
