THANK YOU!

This Thanksgiving, as we spend time with our families and gorge ourselves with home-made feasts, please take a moment to remember our soldiers, sailors and airmen who are serving us. On the day that you are passing the pumpkin pie to your Aunt, Mother or Brother, they will be fortunate to be able to pass hot food to a fellow soldier or sailor. When you are opening those presents on Christmas morning, they are keeping watch over our safety. Usually far from home, these brave men and women are responsible for our being able to observe these holidays. My friends, like Shirley and Michelle, have children serving in the military and I salute them; but this blog entry is dedicated to one in particular...........my neice.

LTJG Wentz is serving on the USS De Wert. I don't know where they are but probably somewhere in the Atlantic. Named after a Medal of Honor hero of the Korean War, this 26 year old warship is only 4,100 tons.

The Oliver Hazard Perry Class Guided Missle Frigate only has about 19 officers and less than 200 enlisted crew.

Last week, there was a lot of hoopla about the "Oasis of The Seas" arriving in Port Everglades.

This is the largest ship in the world at 220,000 tons! Built for luxury and entertainment, it's accomodations are exceptional. The crew of the De Wert has NONE of that luxury. Compare the dining rooms for example:

I couldn't find any pictures of the bunk rooms or tiny shared cabins for the officers but you can be sure they are cramped and impersonal. The De Wert is a warship, built to defend our country - not luxury!

This year, especially during the holidays, let us remember to thank our Father in Heaven for these unselfish "heros".
